SPLat is an Australian designed controller system aimed primarily at companies who need a controller embedded in their own product. Our customers range from small businesses making 2 or 3 machines a month up to huge multinationals who use thousands of our controllers per year. Much of our business is overseas, primarily in the USA. As an example, we manufacture custom SPLat controllers for a company in Colorado called Coolerado, who make an evaporative air conditioner system that adds no humidity to the air. The SPLat controller performs logical control as well as solving an intricate set of equations to optimise the performance of the system, with a resulting 75% energy saving compared to a conventional air conditioner.
We currently have a standard product offering consisting of 4 controllers, 5 expansion boards and about 10 special function add-ons (current transformer, webserver, water level detection etc.). Our main strength, however, lies in the fact that we can make custom solutions based on the core SPLat technology. This is much cheaper than designing a controller from the ground up, and allows us to offer the smaller OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer) a control system that is closely tailored to their needs and let them compete with the "big boys".
We are getting good wins in the US market. Companies like ANKOM have redesigned their instrument range to use SPLat (if you look carefully at their website you will recognise the panel layout as being our MMi202). Dairy Solutions are designing a new product based on our MS120, while G. P. Reeves are standardising on the MS120 (again, you can spot the panel layout if you look carefully). This comes about because, as a small Australian company, we are willing and able to offer a level of support that simply blows them away. They frequently get a better hearing from us than from any company in their own neighborhood. Imagine a company owner in Ohio filling in an online inquiry form and a few hours later getting a 'phone call from an engineer in Australia who not only listens to his needs but is willing and able to help out.
CC18
The SPLat CC18, as featured in the April 2007 issue of Silicon Chip magazine, is our relatively new "entry level" (i.e. low cost) controller. It has a number of outstanding features:
- 16 bidirectional input/output points. As inputs they are compatible with industry standard NPN sensors or simple switches. As outputs they can sink up to 500mA. Unlike Stamps, Sticks and Axes, the CC18 is already fitted with real-world I/O interfaces
- 2, 0-5V ratiometric (10-bit res) analogue inputs
- Xwire interface, allowing a range of additional peripherals to be connected, including pH measurement and SD memory card logging.
MS120
As advertised in Silicon Chip magazine. The MS120 is the world's lowest cost professional quality controller board with inbuilt operator interface.

Common features of CC18 and MS120
- 25K of program memory. Because we use a very compact byte code technology (similar to Java, but we did it long before Java), SPLat program code takes about one tenth as much space as compiled C
- Inbuilt multitasking means you can have up to 32 programs running at the same time, completely independently of each other (or interacting ... whatever you need)
- Floating point arithmetic lets you do fancy calculations easily
