Product documentation: SPice add-on boards

spice intro pic

SPice (or Touch of SPice) boards are small add-on boards that can be added "piggy back" to the SPice connector on a SPLat controller board.

The SPice connector on a controller board makes a relatively small number of otherwise unused processor pins available for use. These pins are generally brought out to the SPice connector with minimal conditioning. A SPice board provides the real-world interfacing to make these pins usable to the outside world. The SPice board will typically provide some kind of special purpose interface(s). A controller can only have one SPice board.

SPice boards are usually small, about the size of a business card, and relatively inexpensive to design and make. They therefore offer a means of providing affordable custom or special purpose interfacing. A custom SPice board can be economical in quantities as low as 15 off.
